Being a complete history nerd and a fashion nerd - I had to get onto the roof top of Selfridges. This was not just a want but a need. I literally harassed them four days in a row to get up there and every day it was closed for private events. On the last day, I very nearly didn't try it and decided last minute to see if they would let me. I was prepared to bribe them! Luckily, it didn't come to that and I was allowed onto the roof to take pictures and play some golf.....no seriously....golf.
Don't be fooled by the weather - it was a horrible week in London and I managed to get up to the roof on the only nice day we had! They currently have an English country style cafe up there which serves the most amazing coffees and teas. I had to stay for one. I just had to! They do food as well but it was a little bit too early for me!!!! The roof garden has had all sorts on top of it over the years - you can read some of my posts on the blog about the womens gun club in the 1930s, the veggie garden during the war or have a look at some of the old pictures by scrolling through the months of blog posts. I think it was filed under fashion history!
So apart from the cafe - there was crazy golf! It's very surreal to find this on top of the roof and people were playing away! It cost roughly €6 per session and the course was well cute!
I'm terrible at it though. I mean seriously bad!
I wish I had seen the garden when it had the boats on top of it. That would have been amazing. That as the previous installation on top of the shop. Sigh..I was too late for that. However, I would really recommend going there on a nice summers day while the weather is good. It's perfect!
If you don't stay for the coffee.....then have a gawp at the view!
Can't quite see my house from here though!
I have to point this out as someone who used to work in visuals - how long did this take someone to do????? All of this has to be measured! It must have taken weeks as it was all over a good portion of the wall. It's strawberries and golf balls!
What a brilliant idea! Playing golf atop the rooftop is so cool! It can be very inviting to the customers, as it was very unusual. Hehe. What’s even cooler is that you can almost see the whole city. Anyhow, I must say it is an effective strategy to attract customers. Bravo!

I love it up there! They change the concept every now and again but it is so worth having a look! I must admit that the coffee was worth the trip alone!
ReplyDeleteGolf on the roof? Awesome! I should congratulate Selfridges for making that possible. No wonder you’ve develop the need to get onto their rooftop. Pictures are great from above and from some places as pleasant as that, too. Being the fashion nerd you’ve proclaimed yourself to be, you surely know where to capture things and moments. ;)

I had a great time! I love the fact that Selfridges are using the garden again. I wish I had seen the pond they built up there at one point!!!
ReplyDeleteI wonder what will happen next!
Nice! My best friend also customized a little golf course on their rooftop a few years ago, and we get to hang out there during the weekends. Rooftops are always the best place to enjoy and do anything you like either by yourself or with company. They never fail to offer delight, relaxation and enjoyment.
